She took another sip of her blonde roast — coffee and an inch of half-and-half milk with a packet of sugar hastily poured in. She was anticipating her boyfriend’s arrival. He said he would be there at 8:30 but it was already 8:32.
She was getting antsy and her heart skipped a couple beats or two.
Is the caffeine kicking in or is it just my excitement?, she wondered.
She grabbed her pen to continue outlining her history chapters and turned up the volume on her iPad. Pandora was open on the One Direction station but a song from Pitch Perfect was playing.
Then she noticed a gray figure in the corner of her eye standing next to her table and she nearly jumped out of her seat.
“Oh my God, you scared me. Sorry. You, oh my God.”
She looked up in her lover’s eyes.
“Sorry.” He flashed a devilish grin and sat down on the chair across from her. She looked at him.
They say people change over time but he seemed to have that same childish humor he had in 7th grade.
She smiled to herself and threw her pen back down on the table.
“Hi,” she breathed out. 8:35, and the day just begun.
